Common questions about Camco T&P Universal Valve Remover

Why can I not just use a shifter?

Room to swing it. The relief valve sits deep in the hot water service compartment with pipework crowding it, and a shifter that only half grips will round the flats off before the valve moves. This tool is shaped to get on square and turn it in a confined space.

What do I need to do before I use it?

Shut off the gas and power to the hot water service, isolate the water supply and drain the tank right down. A relief valve is a pressure fitting on a vessel full of scalding water. Let the whole thing cool before you put a tool anywhere near it.

Does a new valve come with it?

No, this is the removal tool on its own. Have the valve your system takes on hand before you start, because once the old one is out the van has no hot water until the new one is in. Fit new sealing tape or compound as well while you are there.
