Does it stay upright when it is full?

On firm ground, yes — the rigid base panel does its job. On soft sand or loose gravel a full 13 litres is heavy enough to lean and tip, so fill it where it will sit or fill it half way and make two trips. Carry it by the handle, not the rim.

Can I put hot water in it?

Warm washing up water is fine. Straight off the boil is pushing it, and near a fire is a hard no — the Oxford cloth and its waterproof lining are fabric, not metal. Treat it as a wash basin and a carry bucket, and keep it away from coals and embers.

Why does mine smell?

Because it went back in the bag damp. Fabric buckets fold flat in seconds, which makes it far too easy to pack a wet one after the last wash of the trip. Rinse it, stand it open in the sun until the lining is dry, then fold it away.
