Solid or pneumatic, which should I be buying?

Solid, if the trolley lives on hardstand, concrete and gravel and you are sick of flats. What you give up is cushioning: every bump comes straight up through the handles and whatever you are carting. On soft sand or long grass a pneumatic rolls easier. Match the wheel to your ground.

How do I know it will fit my trolley?

Measure the axle, not the old tyre. The bore is 16 mm, which is the common size on hand trolleys and sack barrows but far from the only one out there. Slide a tape or a vernier over the axle first, and check you have clearance for the hub width.

Why does it come as a pair?

Because mismatched wheels make a trolley pull sideways. One fresh tyre running next to a worn or flat one changes the rolling diameter and you fight the thing the whole way across the site. You get 2 wheels for that reason. Do both at once and the barrow tracks straight.
