Pull your old wheel off and look at the shaft. If it's a 3/4 inch tapered shaft with a keyway — which covers most cable-steered trailer boats running Teleflex or SeaStar gear — this drops straight on. Hydraulic helms and splined shafts are a different animal and won't take it.
For a console-steered trailer boat, no — it's the size most runabouts and tinnies run, and it keeps your knees clear. On a heavier hull with stiff cable steering you'll notice the shorter leverage, especially at low speed. The spinner knob is what makes up the difference.
Not on its own. 316 stainless resists salt spray rather than ignoring it, and a mirror finish parked in a coastal shed will pick up tea staining — brown speckling that looks like rust but polishes off. Rinse the helm when you rinse the boat and give it a wipe with a stainless polish.
