About this rest area

Alfred Langhorne Park is not just a park, but a slice of history in the internationally acclaimed wine district, Langhorne Creek. Established in 2007, the park boasts an array of indigenous and horticultural trees planted with the help of local school children. It includes a sheltered BBQ, picnic space, informative displays about the area's history, and is conveniently situated next to the Langhorne Creek Post Office. Come visit the park and let the beautiful surroundings and rich history of the land and its cattle drover, Frank Langhorne, captivate you.

Established in 2007 after the land was acquired by the Alexandrina Council, the park has been planted with a variety of trees including indigenous and horticultural species. Children from the local primary school were involved in the initial plantings. There are Red Gums, Black Box, Quondong and Wattle trees as well as Pepper and Almond trees and a number of other varieties of trees and grasses. There is parallel parking right outside the park, which is next door to the Langhorne Creek Post Office. Frank Langhorne was a cattle drover who stopped in this area to rest and feed the herd that he has brought down from NSW during the 1840s. A decade later, Frank Potts settled on the rich floodplain of the Bremer River and in the early 1860s planted the first grapevines in the district. Langhorne Creek is now an internationally acclaimed wine district with hundreds of hectares under viticulture.
