Common questions

Is 4 litres a minute a real shower?

It is a proper rinse rather than a bathroom shower. Enough pressure to get soap and sand off, and gentle enough that a jerry can lasts a couple of people if you wet, switch off, lather, then rinse. Run it flat out and your water goes fast.

Does it heat the water?

No, it only moves it. Whatever temperature is in the jerry can is what lands on your head, so warm it first — a black water bag left in the sun all afternoon, or a kettle of boiling water stirred through a bucket until it is comfortable.

What kills these pumps?

Running dry and grit. Keep the strainer sitting under the water line, not sucking air as the container empties, and switch off the moment the flow stutters. Keep the inlet off the bottom of a bucket too, because sand through a diaphragm is the end of it.
