Floating Islands Lagoon Nature Reserve is a unique natural area located 3km west of Pirron Yallock along the Princes Highway. The lagoon is notable for its rare floating peat islands — masses of vegetation that float on the water surface and drift with the wind. The rest area provides basic stopping facilities for travellers on the Melbourne to Warrnambool route. Birdwatching is excellent here with a variety of waterbirds visiting the lagoon. Limited facilities — bring your own supplies.
