Boundary Waters & North Shore

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness holds over a thousand designated paddle-in campsites across its lake chains, reached from outfitter towns like Ely and Grand Marais. Superior National Forest adds drive-in campgrounds, and Lake Superior's North Shore strings state park camps up Highway 61. Permits are required for overnight wilderness trips May through September.
