Overview
Twin Lakes Recreation Area is a 152-acre site consisting of a dense overstory of pines and mixed hardwoods. Day Use facilities presently include a new gatehouse/entrance installed in 2017, 1 volunteer host campsite, 27 picnic sites, 2 standard picnic shelters with water and electric service, 1 two lane boat ramp, 1 courtesy dock, 2 comfort stations, 1 playground, 2 designated swim areas/beaches, and associated paved roads and parking areas throughout. This area experiences moderate to high levels of intense public use during the peak recreation season, especially the ramp area that is heavily used during Spring and Summer and is a popular launch point for numerous fishing tournaments.Recreation
Boating and water sports top the list of popular activities. A boat ramp is provided for easy lake access. A large sandy swimming beach with panoramic views of the lake, offers a scenic and spacious area for visitors to cool off in the South Carolina summer.Facilities

Hartwell Lake is a man-made lake bordering Georgia and South Carolina on the Savannah, Tugaloo and Seneca Rivers. The dam and lake area boasts 8 campgrounds and 11 day-use facilities that are operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers. The Hartwell Project was originally authorized for hydro-power, flood control, and navigation. Later, recreation, water quality, water supply and fish and wildlife management were added. Surrounding vegetation allows for plenty of shade, and the 962 miles of shoreline provide numerous swimming beaches, picnic areas and boat ramps.Nearby Attractions

Overview Cassidy Bridge Primitive Camp is situated in the Andrew Pickens Ranger District in Oconee County in the western corner South Carolina. The camp sits on the Chauga River, with the Chattooga River a short drive away. Popular activities include hunting, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, whitewater rafting and sightseeing. Campers: Please remember to lock the gate after driving through, do not leave it unlocked. Thank you Recreation Big-game and turkey hunting are very popular activities in the area. The camp is also a favorite of groups who enjoy hiking, whitewater rafting and fishing. Facilities The campground is open free of charge during big game (October 1st - December 31) and turkey (April 1 - 30) hunting seasons. During the rest of the year, the camp is available for group reservations. Reservations can be made 12 months in advance. Amenities include a pit toilet and RV parking. Natural Features The camp is located in a wooded area on the banks of the Chauga River in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, a part of the Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests. More than 629,000 acres are encompassed in four districts throughout South Carolina, from the lowcountry Atlantic Coast to the western foothills along the Georgia border. WHETSTONE HORSE CAMP
Overview Whetstone Horse Camp is located in the Andrew Pickens Ranger District in Oconee County in the western corner of South Carolina, about 13 miles northwest of Walhalla. The Chattooga River flows nearby. With over 30 miles of horseback riding trails, Whetstone serves as a base for those who like to ride and camp. Recreation The Rocky Gap Trail on the South Carolina side of the river and the Willis Knob Horse Trail on the Georgia side provide excellent horseback riding and hiking opportunities. Visitors also enjoy exploring the nearby Chattooga River. Facilities The campground is open year-round and has 18 sites with parking spurs for horse trailers. All of the 18 Sites are by reservation only. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring and lantern post. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided. Hitching racks are located throughout the facility. Natural Features The camp is situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, near the Rocky Gap and Willis Knob Horse Trails. The Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests encompass more than 629,000 acres in four districts throughout South Carolina, from the lowcountry Atlantic Coast to the western foothills along the Georgia border. Nearby Attractions The town of Walhalla is 13 miles away. The town holds an annual Oktoberfest celebration the third weekend of October. Stumphouse Tunnel, a 19-century uncompleted railroad tunnel, and Isaqueena Falls make for interesting visits. Both are located just 20 minutes from the camp.

WILLIS KNOB HORSE CAMP
Overview Located in the northern Georgia mountains, far from civilization, Willis Knob Horse Campground is one of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests most beloved horse-lover hideaways. The campground features equestrian camping, riding and hiking trails and fishing in the nearby Chattooga River. Recreation The 15-mile Willis Knob Trail in Georgia and 12.5 mile Rocky Gap Trail in South Carolina provide some of the most scenic horseback riding and hiking in the southern Blue Ridge Mountains. Winding across deeply dissected ridges, the trails descend into the vast Chattooga River. The 10.7-mile Chattooga River Trail and the 37-mile Bartram Trail are also accessible nearby and are for hiking only. Fishing is available in the Chattooga River. Facilities The campground provides single, double and group campsites for tent and RV camping. There are water and electric hookups at each of the horse campsites, along with tables, lantern posts and campfire rings with grills. Accessible vault toilets and drinking water are also provided. Sorry there is no dump station. The closest one is at Black Rock State Park in Mountain City, GA. Hitching highlines and a horse watering station are available. Campers are required to clean up after their horses using trailers provided on-site for manure only. Natural Features The horse camp is located in a heavily wooded area of the forest, amid deep canyons and near to the Georgia-South Carolina border.
