About this campsite

Free camping at a former 1870s whaling station site in Cape Arid National Park. Basic facilities include tent sites and toilets, with dogs welcome.

Thomas Fishery Campground occupies a historic site within Cape Arid National Park where a whaling station operated during the 1870s. The original structures, including shacks and a large fireplace with iron try pot used for rendering whale blubber, no longer remain. Managed by Parks and Wildlife, this free camping area provides basic tent sites and toilet facilities in a remote wilderness setting. Southern right whales can occasionally be observed offshore during calving season. Dogs are permitted at this coastal campground, which is accessible by two-wheel-drive vehicle.
