Overview
Large landscape views of trees and valleys can be seen along the six mile drive to Silver Lake. Sitting at just over 6,000 ft in elevation, the Silver lake campground set up for solitude and tranquility. The sites are spread out and isolated to provide for an optimal quiet experience to enhance the camping experience. Easy access to hiking trails, high alpine lakes and OHV riding is just a short distance from the campground.
Recreation
High alpine lakes, granite boulders and blue bird skies are treats for those who camp here. Access to hiking is located along the eastern side of Silver Lake. Continue up and on to Bucks Summit on the PCT or climb the prominent Spanish Peak where the ole look out once stood.
OHV routes also leave from the campground area but were severely impacted by the Dixie Fire in 2021 and have not been maintained so be aware of hazard trees and other debris that might slow down your route.
Facilities
- There are eight first come/ first serve campsites. Each site has a picnic table, fire ring and food storage locker.
- No trash service is provided
- Vault toilets are located in two areas of the campground
- Parking for day use and hiking is located near the lake by the vault toilets
- The Mount Hough Ranger Station maintains this campground and uses the fees collected to purchase cleaning supplies, toilet paper and general cleaning of campsites.
Natural Features

Overview Mill Creek campground is located at Bucks Lake in the northern Sierra Mountains on the Plumas National Forest. The Bucks Lake area offers year-round recreation activities including fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, skiing,snowshoeing and horseback riding. Recreation The greater Bucks Lake area provides ample recreation opportunities for fishing, boating and hiking. The boat ramp at Shady Point provides several activies: a boat dock to launch boats, showers, and day use picnicking. In addition to the hiking trail that starts in the north part of the Mill Creek Campground, several trails are only a short drive away. Bucks Summit is a great way to access the PCT or the Bucks Summit Loop Trail. Facilities There are 11 total campsites suitable for RV and tent camping, standard non-electric sites. Each site has a fire ring, picnic table and food storage lockers. There are vault toilets and drinking water is available. Overview Whitehorse campground is located within three miles of Bucks Lake in the northern Sierra Mountains on the Plumas National Forest. The Bucks Lake area offers year-round recreation activities including fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, skiing,snowshoeing and horseback riding. Recreation Staying at the Whitehorse campground provides access to several activites located in the greater Bucks Lake area. Fishing, boating, and canoeing, as well as hiking are all activities that can be achieved by staying in this campground. There are walking trails to the lake. A hiking trail runs from the campground and provides access to the Bucks Lake Wilderness and the Pacific Crest Trail. Marinas and boat docks are also within a short drive as well as restaurants at the Lakeside Resort and Bucks Lake Lodge which will re-open under new management in the summer for 2025, weather permitting. Limited supplies and a deli are located at the Haskins Valley Store just a short drive away. Facilities Your camping fees make a difference!!! In 2024 this campground recieved new concrete picnic tables and bear proof food storage lockers in most campsites. Vault toilets, water and trash services are on site as well. Natural Features This campground is set in a fir and pine forest offering shade during the warm summer months. Situated at 5,500 feet in elevation, the campground is settled along a small creek that feeds into Bucks Lake. Nearby Attractions The nearby Bucks Lake Lodge has a bar, restaurant and store offering fishing supplies and groceries.

HALLSTED
Overview Hallsted campground is conveniently situated in the Feather River Canyon, just off the main road in the northern Sierra Nevada Mountains. At an elevation of 2,300 feet, it offers a cool getaway from the summer heat, as well as a variety of outdoor activities The route on the nearby Feather River National Scenic Byway traverses a steeply carved river gorge that encapsulates the historic railroad system from Oroville to Quincy and impressive powerhouses built to provide hydroelectricity. Recreation Fly fishing for trout and swimming are popular activities in the nearby north fork of the Feather River. Facilities Hallsted is within walking distance of the Feather River. The campground offers multiple single-family sites, accommodating both tent and trailer camping. Tables and campfire rings with grills are provided, as well as flush toilets, showers and drinking water. Recently renovated, most of Hallsted’s campground spurs have been widened and lengthened as well as multiple sites now have power. The shower and bathroom facilities are all new. In addition, a nice walking path meanders through the forest and takes you down to the North Fork of the Feather River. Natural Features Mature pine and fir trees provide ample shade for the campground, as well as a perfect atmosphere for mountain camping. Several sites parallel the north fork of the Feather River. A variety of wildlife make its home in the area. Nearby Attractions A general store is available in Twain, less than a half-mile from the campground. Quincy is approximately 17 miles east, providing the nearest source of fuel.

Meadow Camp Campground
Overview This campground features 6 improved dispersed campsites. Sites 1-3 are intended for equestrian use providing plenty of space for horse trailers. There is not a corral or water trough, so be prepared for limited equestrian services. Recreation Equestrian and OHV access routes start immediately outside the entrance of the campground. Miles of roads are your fingertips and available for your riding pleasure. Adhere to all OHV and vehicle use guidelines. Facilities This campground has been improved and provides these convienences: a picnic table, fire pit and vault toilet. Please provide your own water and take your trash home, there are no trash services available at this site. Natural Features A beautiful native grass meadow, mixed pine and red oak forest, and the slow moving waters of the Meadow Valley Creek are the natural features that can be located near this campground.
