Omaio Bay Reserve is a free, basic freedom camping area operated by Opotiki District Council, located on Omaio Pa Road near State Highway 35 in the Bay of Plenty. The camping field sits elevated above the sea behind mature pōhutukawa trees, offering space for over 20 campers. Public toilets are available approximately one kilometre away along Omaio Beach Road. The site provides access to Omaio Beach for fishing, surfcasting, swimming and walking. Campers should note the maximum stay is 13–14 consecutive nights, dogs must be kept under control at all times, and waahi tapu sites within the reserve are clearly signposted and must be respected—camping is not permitted in these sacred areas.
