About this campsite

Koonalda Station, once functioning as a historic roadhouse and garage on the original Eyre Highway, is an iconic travel destination. It's a window into Australia's pioneering past, featuring a vast graveyard of wrecked vehicles – silent remnants of journeys that stumbled. After its closure in 1988, it became part of the Nullarbor National Park. Today, it provides a unique and rugged adventure for explorers, offering an authentic off-road experience due to its dry-weather-only, non-maintained access road.

On the original (gravel) Eyre Highway, prior to 1976, Koonalda station functioned as a roadhouse and garage for travellers. There is a large graveyard of wrecked vehicles which didn't make it all the way across. The station closed in 1988 and became part of the Nullarbor National Park. Access road is dry-weather-only and can be extremely rough as it is not maintained.
