Camooweal Caves National Park is a captivating destination located in the semi-arid Barkly Tablelands. Spanning 13,800 hectares, the park is highlighted by impressive sinkholes which have been carved into layers of soluble dolomite dating back 500 million years. Open eucalypt woodland, spinifex, turpentine wattle shrubland, and vast Mitchell grass plains enhance its scenic allure. The area is a haven for a variety of birds including waterbirds and woodland species visible throughout the year. For a seamless experience, visitors are encouraged to bring their own fresh water and fuel stoves, as these are not provided.

The Camooweal Caves National Park houses unique sinkholes and caverns. The intricately carved caves, formed from soluble dolomite soaking in water for over 500 million years, are interconnected by vertical shafts that drop as deep as 75 meters. Spread across 13,800 hectares, the park is a semi-arid tableau, boasting open eucalypt woodland, spinifex, turpentine wattle shrubland, and extensive Mitchell grass plains. The park serves as a thriving hub for diverse bird species, including both woodland and water birds. They can be spotted at varying times throughout the year, providing an exciting sight for bird enthusiasts. To maintain the park's natural beauty and protect its ecosystem, visitors are kindly requested to take all rubbish with them upon leaving. Freshly drinking water isn't provided, so bringing an adequate supply is essential. Also, using a fuel stove is recommended since camping is not allowed in the park. How to Get There

The park is 189 km west of Mount Isa and 24 km south of Camooweal. Take the Urandangi Road 8 km south of Camooweal and turn left on the park boundary road after crossing the fourth grid from Camooweal.
