The region remains accessible even after rainfall, needing only 4WD for extreme weather situations. For tech-savvy campers, good phone reception is a plus. However, to enjoy a rustic bonfire, you'll need to collect firewood on your way from Quilpie. You're not just surrounded by the serene lake, but also a host of waterbirds, including emus, perfect for bird-watching and photography. And while the lake might seem slightly muddy, it's an excellent source of water if you carry Alum. Simply add a heaped teaspoon of Alum to 20L of water, and voila - you have potable water! This camping area offers you a chance to unwind and bask in the charm of nature.

Proceed to turnoff, 2km east of Quilpie on Developmental Road at railway crossing. GPS -26.61090, 144.28576. Turn north across the railway line and follow Adavale Road for approx. 2.5km to waypoint, immediately after cattle grid. At the waypoint, turn east onto a track for a further 1.8km to camp area on edge of Lake Houdraman.
