About this rest area

Council-owned camping ground at the mouth of the Hull River, run day-to-day by the volunteer Coast Guard — about 25 grassy unpowered sites, no bookings, see the caretaker on arrival.

Hull Heads Camping Ground sits at the mouth of the Hull River near Tully Heads, on the Cassowary Coast. The council-owned ground has about 25 grassy, unpowered sites suited to tents and caravans. There are no advance bookings — check in with the Coast Guard caretakers at the rear of the Coast Guard building on arrival and pay the nightly fee. Maximum stay is four nights, and generators are not permitted. Facilities include toilets, hot showers, drinking water, free electric BBQs and picnic tables, with a public boat ramp beside the camp. This is crocodile country at a river mouth — estuarine crocodiles frequent the area, so don't swim here. The beach fishing, however, is why most people come.

How to Get There

21.5km south-east of Tully. Proceed to waypoint, 5km south-east of Tully at junction of Old Bruce Highway and Silky Oak Creek Road. Turn east onto Silky Oak Creek Road and continue for 16.5km to camp area.
