Cooktown Rest Area offers a relaxing space tucked behind Cooktown's main street, just steps away from local eateries, shops, and cultural hotspots including the Cooktown Creative Arts Association and the renowned James Cook Museum. In addition to its proximity to town, the rest area is a short walk to the Botanical Gardens and Cooktown Wharf, as well as a brief drive to Grassy Hill, offering stunning views of the town and the Great Barrier Reef. It’s an ideal spot to absorb the local culture, history, and natural beauty.

Situated behind the main street of Cooktown and in close walking distance to shops, bakery, restaurants, hotels, art & craft. You can also walk to Cooktown Wharf, the Botanical Gardens & the must-see James Cook Museum. Cooktown Creative Arts Assoc. is situated in the old Railway Building in the main Street, right in front of this rest area. All items handmade by Local Artists. It is only a short drive to Grassy Hill which overlooks the town and Great Barrier Reef.
