This beautiful, wooded park is known for its peaceful surroundings and National Park Service hospitality. Recreation Ten miles (16 km) of hiking trails meander through Greenbelt Park, including the Perimeter, Azalea, Dogwood and Blueberry Trails. Sweetgum Picnic Area is located near the entrance of the park with playground equipment and public picnic tables. The Sweetgum Picnic Area is on a first-come, first-served basis limited to groups of 24 people or less. The Holly Picnic Area is a 1/2 mile (.8 km) walk to playground and open field. Facilities Greenbelt Park has two picnic areas available, ranging in capacity from 25-150 people per site, with restrooms, picnic tables, and barbeque grills. Park rangers, maintenance personnel and park police are on site if needed. Natural Features In suburban Maryland, Greenbelt Park is forested with a pleasant mix of pine, oak and maple trees which make for a colorful autumn season. Each campsite includes a picnic table and combination grill/campfire ring. Campsites have been improved using your camping fees to include new picnic tables and grills. The campground does not have water or electric hookups (primitive campground). A Loop is a Scout loop, youth or group Loop only. There is a RV limit of 30 feet/9 m (including tow vehicle) in B Loop and limited availability for larger vehicles (35 feet/10.6 m including tow vehicle) in D loop. Recreation The trails are open. Ten miles (16 km) of hiking trails meander through Greenbelt Park, including the Perimeter, Azalea, Dogwood and Blueberry Trails. Sweetgum Picnic Area is located near the entrance of the park with playground equipment and public picnic tables. Overview Eight group picnic areas in Rock Creek Park are available for advance reservation from April 1 through November 30. These picnic areas are available on a first-come, first-served basis from December 1 through March 31. Recreation Recreational activities in Rock Creek Park include: soccer, picnics, hiking, biking, roller blading, tennis, fishing, horseback riding and attending a concert or park ranger program. Facilities All picnic groves are equipped with multiple picnic tables, some also have fireplaces that can be used for cooking. User must provide a cooking grate or other cooking equipment. Picnic groves 1, 6, 13 and 24 have pavilions. Some sites offer access to toilet facilities, though not all. Please refer to specific grove descriptions for details.
