About
Wollomombi Falls are in the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, 40km east of Armidale and 1km off the Waterfall Way. They are one of the tallest waterfalls in Australia.Another 40km east is the Guy Fawkes River at Ebor where the Ebor Falls are well worth the short detour of a few hundred metres off the main road. Be sure to have your camera ready.
The road passes through rich grazing land which once supported a thriving dairy industry. In recent years this has mostly given way to beef cattle. A flourishing potato growing enterprise has been established in and around the township of Dorrigo. This area experiences the highest rainfall in NSW, with an annual average of over two metres.
Two kilometres north of the town of Dorrigo, located just off Coramba Road, are the Dangar Falls, on the Beilsdown River. Here you can enjoy a summer swim in the large pond below the waterfall.
The Waterfall Way begins its descent at a high point on Dorrigo Mountain where is passes the Dorrigo National Park, a World Heritage listed temperate rainforest. It is in this area that a lucrative timber industry operated during the 19th and early 20th century, but now only a small portion of the rainforest remains, protected for all time in the National Park. The Park boasts a well trodden walkway that allows visitors to venture out among the tree tops and enjoy a view that extends all the way to the ocean on a clear day.
As the road descends from Dorrigo Mountain, winding its way down to Bellingen, waterfalls can be seen tumbling down the mountain above the road then, after passing under the road, continue their plummeting descent to feed the Bellinger River below.
The winding nature of the Waterfall Way and its spectacular scenery places it among the ten most popular motorcycle rides in NSW.
