About
The towns of Maleny Mapleton, Montville Flaxton and Kenilworth sit along the spine of the Blackall Range, linked by a picturesque road that makes a great weekend drive. At the southern end of the range is the town of Maleny. Previously a dairying district, it is now mainly supported by tourism and enjoys a relaxed laid-back lifestyle. It can be reached via a short but steep drive up the range from Landsborough.Further north is Montville, which once was a farming district, growing pineapples, avocados, macadamia nuts and citrus. It was also a darying centre. Now, tourism has taken over as the main industry, with the nearby rainforest walks, stunning views and natural surroundings. There are a selection of arts and craft shops in the town and the Cafe Strip is always popular.
Five minutes drive north of Montville is the tiny village of Flaxton, best known for its wedding reception centre and luxury accommodation. There are also arts and craft shops to be discovered here.
Another five minutes north of Flaxton is the town of Mapleton. This can also be reached from Nambour, by following the winding picturesque Obi Obi Road. This is a steep climb with tight corners.
Mapleton has two caravan parks, both of them listed in this website. To the north of the town is the Mapleton Forest Reserve with its winding 4WD tracks that take you through the unspoilt forest towards the Eumundi Kenilworth Road, passing the Cooloolabin Dam.These tracks are strictly for high clearance 4X4 vehicles.
To the west of Mapleton via Obi Obi Road is the town of Kenilworth in the Mary Valley. It retains its 1920s atmosphere and has a museum, two art galleries and several interesting shops. The Kenilworth State Forest, adjacent to the Town, provides excellent opportunities for horse riding, walking and fishing
