About
Bribie Island is a sand island which measures 34km long and 8km wide, located at the northern edge of Moreton Bay in Queensland. In 1963 after two years of construction, a bridge was opened to connect the island with the mainland. At the time it was the longest pre-stressed concrete bridge in Australia. Before the bridge was opened, the only way to access the island was by boat. There were about 600 residents on the island at that time. Since then however the island has grown in population and has become a regular holiday destination for many as well as supporting a permanent population. It is within easy reach of Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.
