About this campsite

Meentheena was once a working sheep and cattle station on the Nullagine River in Northern Western Australia. The State Government acquired the station many years ago and it has been neglected until 2010 when a group of veterans met to make a retreat for all service personell. A lease was obtained for a portion of the station and veterans of all types have been making the old station livable and a retreat for veterans. There is a Donga accommodation on the site and a manager lives on site. Solar Panels have been installed for some power to the Donga so it can house disabled veterans. Water is pumped from a bore and by the end of April 2013 several Tropical shelters have been finished so caravans can park under to escape the heat. A two bay shower block has been constructed under a water tank as well as a small laundry where guests can do their washing for a gold coin donation. A disabled block (shower & toilet). The main building is a general meeting/eating area with a lovely pergola under a couple of large white gums where many happy hours occur. A camp kitchen is provided in the building for use of guests with hot and cold running water for cleaning up after you. The camp is mainly for self contained camping. so it is not for those who expect anything above 1-2 star. Camp up beside the river and relax. The area is very picturesque and there is an abundance of wildlife in the area. There is Plenty of fresh potable water available however typical of the northwest the water has a slight aftertaste and is hard so take an extra cake of soap !! As the area is a conservation park pets ie. cats and dogs are not permitted. Please checkout VRWA website to see what is available http://www.veteransretreatswa-meentheena.org/ then go there and enjoy paradise.
