Despite its name, Reid River is typically dry, making it a serene place for relaxation and refreshment during travel rather than a fishing spot. Recently refurbished, the rest area offers improved comfort for visitors.

Macrossan Park

Macrossan Park is an expansive and free camping area, ideal for those craving space and tranquility. The park facilitates comfortable camping with a well-maintained amenities block featuring cold showers and flushing toilets. Campers have plenty of room for their vans, with significant level areas for easy access. Although the park is far from the highway, there's good mobile reception around the toilet block on high ground. Campers can also find picturesque spots on the banks of the Burdekin River, especially suitable for 4X4 with small van/camper.

It is conveniently located next to a creek and swimming hole, and within walking distance to a pub, small store, and fuel station. The park features clean amenities, including garbage bins and a dump point, and even boasts individual taps for each site. It's a popular spot, particularly given regular town visits by Rangers from the Townsville Regional Council, ensuring safety and upkeep of the park.
