Betoota Rest Area
About this campsite
The Betoota Rest Area is a historic site steeped in stories of the past. Visitors often pause here to absorb the legacy of the site, as they imagine the life of its last resident, who lived in extreme isolation until 1997. The echoes of past life, exuberant chatter and various visitors still resonate long after the town stopped bustling. A short drive around the left of what was once a popular pub leads to a serene creek or waterhole – an ideal location for an overnight stay, boasting ample, flat camping spots. However, visitors should be aware that there are no operating facilities in Betoota. Though quiet now, Betoota Rest Area is a testament to the resilience of life in solitude and a reminder of a community that once was.
